My Breath Never Smells Fresh. How Do I Get Clean Breath?People who have bad breath are often the butt of jokes, but halitosis, which is the clinical term for bad breath, isn't a laughing matter. In fact, if you are one of the 1 in 4 Americans who suffer from halitosis, bad breath is embarrassing. Bad breath might keep you from going on a date, a job interview, or a night out with friends.

If you suffer from bad breath, you should know there are solutions to help you. Here are a few suggestions.

Bad Breath Might be a Sign of a Larger Issue


People tend to have bad breath for reasons other than eating garlic or onions occasionally. One large cause of bad breath is chronically dry mouth. Many people who take medication have dry mouths, which causes the saliva in their mouths to dry up. A dry mouth allows more bacteria in your mouth to grow and flourish. Not only can this lead to bad breath, but it can also cause cavities and gum disease since the bacteria can freely multiply without saliva.

Help for Halitosis


Here are some tips to help you with bad breath. First, if you suffer from dry mouth, there are products that can help. Look for products that contain xylitol, which helps you produce more saliva. Xylitol is available in mouthwashes, toothpaste, and even gum or candy.

There are other things you can do as well to help combat bad breath. First, carry a portable toothbrush with you at work, or leave one in your office, so that you can brush your teeth after meals or snacks. Second, think about natural remedies for bad breath, such as mint, baking soda, and lemon or citrus. Also, if you tend to have a dry mouth at night, think about adding a humidifier to your bedroom.

If you are suffering from bad breath, think about consulting a dentist as well. Dentists can help you with additional remedies for halitosis.
