Cheek Augmentation Charleston, WV
Our staff of oral and maxillofacial surgeons specializing in cosmetic procedures are trained to examine the structure of your face and select a treatment that is sure to bring you the best possible results. If cheek augmentation is right for you, you will be given detailed instructions on what to expect during your procedure and all of your questions will be addressed.
Cheek implants can be used in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery procedures, such as face, brow and eyelid lifts, or rhinoplasty. When this is the case, the implants can be inserted through those same incisions made during those procedures. When a cheek implant is not used in conjunction with another treatment, the implants are placed through their own small incisions made in the mouth or lower eyelids. These implants are placed into small pockets made by the surgeon, and the site is stitched closed. These stitches will usually be removed after about 10 days, or they will dissolve if placed inside the mouth.
What To Expect During Your Treatment
Each treatment varies since each patient is a little bit different. However, here is a snapshot of what you can expect during your cheek augmentation procedure with us:
The consultation
Here, one of our highly certified and trained surgeons will discuss the results that you are looking for and treatment options. If cheek augmentation treatment is the selected method of treatment, we will establish a date for your procedure and provide you with pre- and post-procedure instructions, which you are expected to read carefully and follow closely.
The procedure
When you arrive at our practice the day of your treatment, you will be placed under general anesthesia for optimal comfort. This means you will be asleep for the entire procedure and should have a pre-arranged designated driver present to take you home afterward. Typically, your surgeon will make an incision through the mouth and create a pocket above the bony surface of the cheek to insert the implant. The implant is positioned and stabilized using a screw, and the incision is stitched closed. This procedure usually takes one hour but can vary depending on your situation.
Recovery
You will feel sleepy after your procedure and will be instructed to be driven home by your designated driver and rest. From there, you can expect to rest for the remainder of the day. You can expect a moderate amount of swelling around the cheek area and possibly under the eyes but minimal discomfort overall. Pay close attention to your post-procedure instructions to ensure you have a speedy and smooth recovery.
